Will the 2014 General Elections be Influenced by Social Media?



The digital buzz has got everyone feeling the importance of being a part of the nation and the significance of speech and opinion.

It seems like Facebook will play a bigger part in the Indian election as it’s friendlier than twitter and has ‘pages’ can be used as platform for people to debate and talk about issues. In two years the Facebook has multiplied eight times in its user number and it currently has 65 million active users worldwide.

The world has turned into a ‘digital village’ since the onset of social media, the world of politics has understood the power it has and amplified it by incorporating these advances for better participation and awareness. In India the ‘craze’ of networking has infatuated the politicians alike and there are many who have joined twitter, Facebook and YouTube and are consistent on making remarks and recognitions on these sites. These inclinations do show potential involvement of social media in the upcoming 2014 elections.
