TV Loses Charm Among Indian Youth



Television is losing its gleam with Gen Y, with only 0.71 percent of the respondents giving a ‘thumps up’ to it. In Mumbai, 99 percent of the high school students own mobile phones and also consider or rank it as their favorite gadgets.

While mobile phones lists as the favorite gadget among Gen Y, 62 percent of the students use personal computers and 45.24 percent of the students use laptops. The survey adds that an increase in internet access resulted in a significant drop in the popularity of cyber cafes as avenues to access the internet. As many as 84.3 percent access the internet at home, while 20-22 percent students use school computers or cyber cafes to connect.

The use of internet, however, is at 74 percent for doing research work in school followed by chatting and connecting with friends at 67.8 percent. Also 33.3 percent of students access the internet for 30-60 minutes, while only 5.4 percent access the same for more than three hours.
