The Social Media Superstars In Indian Government
Dr Manmohan Singh
Even though the current Prime Minister of India started his official Facebook page way back in 2008, he doesn’t seem to enjoy much popularity. May be the infrequent updates on his page had limited it to the likes of just over three lakhs. But the Official Twitter Avatar of the same, which started earlier this year, had gained much popularity of more than two lakh followers in a short time.
In fact, the recent controversies with the PM’s Account might have fueled its popularity. Following the North East exodus, government had asked Twitter to close six accounts resembling the PMO's official account which contained objectionable content. But after a cold response from Twitter, government had went ahead with closing the accounts on its own and threatened to take legal actions against Twitter, if it didn’t comply with regulations.
However, PM’s Twitter account is frequently updated and talks about his views on current issues, his addresses to the nation as well as information on official events. The PMO also has a YouTube account that is updated on regular basis.
