Social Entrepreneurs On A Mission To Solve Chronic Female Health-Care Problem

Arunachalam Muruganantham, another Indian entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu has started a non-profit organization called Gandhigram which pioneers in low-cost pad manufacturing. This organization has partnered with engineers from IIT, Madras and has developed similar technologies like Aakar innovations. There is also an NGO called Goonj that sews and sterilizers discarded old clothes and makes them into sanitary pads. With the country being amassed by costly brands, organizations such as these are really on a mission to provide their service at an affordable cost.

Making profit through social service and women empowerment

Ronald van het Hof of Women on Wings, says that Aakar’s product meets the standards of the Western world and can compete with all global brands. This Dutch-based consultancy which is focused on creating jobs for women, decided to be Aakar’s beneficiary after researching the sanitary-pad markets in Indian states like Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
