Ragging: India's 'Hall Of Shame'

National Power Training Institute, Kolkatta Ragging Case:

In this case, three girls were accused of ragging a junior in an engineering college where the three accused allegedly made the junior to strip and later photographed her. Unable to bear the trauma, the victim had slashed her wrists. The three girls were slapped with a string of non-bailable charges that include attempted murder and were sent to jail custody for five years. This incident was regarded as the first ragging in West Bengal. The college authorities suspended the three accused based on the complaint by the victims guardian.

Jharkhand Ragging Case:

Some senior students who beat up youngsters with a belt in Jharkhand’s Sainik School had sparked outrage and an FIR had also been registered against the two students of the school, though no arrests have been made in the case. The incident was actually filmed by one of the students of the school and had shared it with the media. In the video, a student was seen hitting young children crouched up in a line. Later, another student uses a belt to strike a student seven times. Interesting thing about the case was that none of the staffing authorities had come to know about the incident. Later the school authorities had confirmed that a guard was a witness to the beating but did not report the matter to the authorities. It was learned that the guard was subsequently fired.
