Oracle: The 'King of Enterprise'?

The strategy is certainly clear. Oracle is planning to create itself a ‘red’ ecosystem, so that the company can not only get control over its products, but its customers as well. This suggests, in future, they can remotely patch all its system to suit themselves for all the next-gen technologies, which certainly is a creative idea.

But is it a risky strategy?

Although Oracle’s idea of handling both the software and hardware seems gripping, the history speaks another story. We have seen ‘the big blues’, IBM, themselves failing to handle both the software and hardware platforms, which eventually resulted in selling their personal computer business to Lenovo. Similarly Dell tried briefly to get into tablets but failed, and has regrouped around core services. Another recent example is HP, who has realized the truth that their business profit is certainly going down.

Coming back to Oracle, if they want to be the next big thing in the enterprise platform, they primarily need to focus around a few key products and really need to develop a design that can please even their utmost rivals.
