Bill Gates makes it to the list of notable philanthropists too. The American business magnate is known for his philanthropic activities. He is the former chief executive and current chairman of Microsoft and is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people. Gates has pursued a number of philanthropic endeavors, donating huge amounts of money to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that was established in 2000. He recently has pledged to donate $1.8 billion for the cause of eradicating all polio types.

The Gates couple became the world’s leading philanthropists since 2000 when they said that they would donate most of their $67 billion fortune to charitable causes, from which $37 billion has already been donated for noble causes. The primary aim of the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation is to globally enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and in America, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology.
