Nations Where Slavery is Most Prevalent

4. India:

India, the world’s second most populous country with a population of over 1.2 billion people, exhibits a wide range of different forms of modern slavery, from severe forms of inter-generational bonded labour across various industries to the worst forms of child labour, commercial sexual exploitation, and forced and servile marriage. The country is today a home to nearly half of the world’s modern-day slaves. In India, modern slave are not just human trafficking by cold-blooded criminals in neglected corners of earth, but educated elite and global corporations too actively involved in it. The exploitation of Indians citizens within the country itself is by far the largest proportion of this problem, particularly through debt bondage and bonded labour. Although, India has excellent anti-slavery laws, enforcement is infrequent and incompatible. India remains one of the few countries not to have approved the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention.
