Infact, India’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has increased to five-fold to 75 in the past three years. Even Renault Nissan and Ford have increased their women workforce to 7 percent.

“Women are more dexterous and nimble and bring in that edge to the manufacturing process”, says Tom Chackalackal, executive director, manufacturing, Ford India.

"The women are engaged in hardcore areas of automation, designing of assembly lines, inspection of new components and engineering support; they bring in versatility and out-of-the-box thinking," says S Y Siddiqui, chief operating officer (administration), Maruti Suzuki.

Yamaha is one Indian company that has increased its productivity by 20 to 25 percent after they employed many women employees. The company has around 15-20 women group leaders who groom a team of women to take in charge as supervisors, says Ramesh Sharma, group head manufacturing, Yamaha India.

Previously, male employees were reluctant about having women in the shop floor, as they felt that it is the tough place for them to supervise. Sources from Bajaj automobiles said, “If women can manage my home and my country, why not my company too!"
