Meet The Women Stars of UPSC 2012

Shena Aggarwal

State: Haryana

Shena Aggarwal, who holds first rank in the Civil Service exam, belongs to Yamunanagar, a small district in Haryana. Shena’s victory has changed Yamunanagar to a symbol of girl power from being a region famous for its low female sex ratio. It took three attempts for this MBBS graduate from AIMS, New Delhi to reach the top spot she always wished for.

This was Shena’s third attempt at CSE. Last year she had secured an All India Rank of 305 and got selected for Indian Revenue Service. But as a girl who believes “there is no success formula to crack exam”, she was determined to reach single digit rank this time.

"I have no words to express my happiness, I am very happy, I am very happy. You can estimate how happy a parent whose daughter has topped the civil services examination would feel,” said Shena’s father, Dr Aggarwal. This is a lesson for those parents who do wrong things against girl child. Girls should come forward and show such good results,” added Aggarwal.
