IPL Back in Controversies: Spot-Fixing and Sahara's Withdrawal

The move came amid suspicion that honey traps could have been laid to lure cricketers into spot-fixing IPL matches.

Apart from electronic devices, including a laptop, Rs 72,000 cash, data card and diaries with entries in English and Malayalam, which appeared to be in Sreesanth's handwriting, were also seized. Sreesanth's laptop had dozens of photographs of models e-mailed to him by the casting director.

Delhi investigators also said Sreesanth went on a shopping spree with the money he earned from spot fixing before the 15th match of IPL-6 and bought apparel worth 1.95 lakh for himself from a Mumbai showroom and a mobile phone costing over 40,000 for his girlfriend.

He wanted to quickly dispose of the cash which he got after fixing, a Delhi Police official said, adding that the cricketer paid cash for the costly items which be bought.

While the IPL continues to be the league of controversies and what unfolds in the future only time can tell, it is certainly hoped that the game is played with the right spirit and illegal practices and other scandalous activities are left out of the game.
