Indian Founded Startup Apigee, Experiences Investor Rush with $72 Million

Today, Apigee is a fully fledged company in terms of working team and otherwise with Anant Jhingran – former IBM cloud big wig, Michael Gardner from eBay and Srinivasulu Grandhi from Amazon and Microsoft Windows Live. These businessmen joined the Apigee team because it took up the challenge to solve hard problems for enterprises, by converting their web based applications into new mobile apps and new business opportunities. It also offers tools for ‘application programming interfaces’.

Printing a photo from phone was considered to be very difficult but Apigee tech helped Walgreens roll out an app for this purpose to print pictures directly from an Android or iPhone. There were many other sites like GroupShot and Kicksend signed in their customers print pictures at Walgreens.

"APIs are like doors, they let information flow in and out of apps, the opportunity is not just for companies like Netflix to create mobile apps, but for companies like Walgreens." It now "has a third-party ecosystem” and "a whole new market." Kapoor told this to Business Insider.

This round of funding was led by new investor Focus Ventures with participation from current investors Bay Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, SAP Ventures, and Third Point Ventures. The company grew its revenue by over 300% last year with a rich database of clients and customers. Apigee’s customer list also includes AT&T, Gamestop, Shazam, The Weather Channel and Whole Foods.
