India Ranks 115 on Women Empowerment Meter

The report has presented quite a picture of the growing economy of India and how this economy with massive potential has created vast work opportunities for women. Many women are even prevented from availing these possibilities due to lack of resources, gender discrimination and cultural constraints. These are seen as the barriers and challenges for women to secure economic empowerment and professional success.

The country also faces the gruesome really of ‘horror killing’ estimating to a 1000 each year committed against women. "Along with female feticide and infanticide, acid attacks, rape, and sexual harassment act both as the symptoms of and catalysts for women's disempowerment” said the report.

It also showed that forty five percent of women have felt they are unfairly treated at workplace. Women also have to make great efforts to rejoin work after giving birth in few cases. Further, there are 50 percent of women who reported insecurity while commuting to or from work. There has been an anti-discrimination legislature formulated to protect women; however its implementation seems miles away at present.

In the rural part of India women entrepreneurs find it difficult in finding sources for the startup capital, also with accessing the system, finding required methods and plans to expand the business.

In order to increase the rate of empowering women India needs to break these extensive obstructions against it, both in the entrepreneurial front and private-sector work ground.
