Godmen of India Who are more Famous for Controversies than Spirituality

3. Asaram Bapu:

Sant Shri Asharam Ji Bapu who is endearingly called Bapu is one of the most controversial spiritual gurus. He is accused of land grabbing in Gujarat and various other cities. His ashram which is located on the banks of the Sabarmati in Ahmedabad is visited by devotees for prayers, yoga and meditation. There have also been rumors of "evil activities" at his ashrams, after four children were found dead at his ashram a couple of months ago and the mutilated bodies were recovered from the riverbed. The city saw massive protests and demands for a CBI probe. Asaram Bapu also attracted much attention for his statement that the Delhi gang-rape victim could have escaped rape if she had called her attackers brothers, and pleaded to be let off.

Some of his ashrams are also said to be built on land acquired illegally. The trust headed by the controversial godman owns more than 350 ashrams in the country and abroad, besides 17,000 Bal Sanskar Kendras. This Spiritual leader has been booked for sexual assault recently, following a complaint from a minor girl at Kamala Market police station in central Delhi.
