Global Cities That Will See Highest Water Demand by 2025



Kolkata, India:

Kolkata takes the seventh position on the list. The city boasts of excess water supply presently, but the scenario may change by 2025. The demand-supply ratio could fall to 100:75 from the present 101:125, if the usage pattern is not changed and if steps are not taken to conserve water. Statistics reveal that consumption of water in Kolkata has been growing and it warns of far exceed availability. The water crunch will have severe implication for the city due to its population, density, consumption pattern and lifestyle. As per a study, the household water consumption in the city is 55 cubic metre per day, and average consumption is much higher.

Khartoum, Sudan:

The capital of Sudan, Khartoum takes the eighth position on the list. This global city is also expected to witness a high water demand in the coming years. It is seen that the city is already seeing a rise in the demand for water. Apart from the rapid population growth in the city, the demand for drinking water in Greater Khartoum also increased due to changing water consumption patterns which is a result of urbanization.
