Lagaan

Ashutosh Gowarikar directed Lagaan was the biggest box office hits of 2001. The movie starring Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh in the lead roles is one among the best patriotic movie to remember. The story is set in the Victorian period of India’s colonial British Raj and based on villagers suffering from high taxation back that time, agricultural issues and plays cricket to change their village’s destiny.

Also, Laagan is one among the third hindi- language film that got nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film followed by Mother India and Salaam Bombay. The movie bagged many Indian film awards and in was ranked 55th in ‘Empire’ magazines "The 100 Best Films Of World Cinema.”

A Wednesday

New era of patriotism in Bollywood has been observed through a film called ‘A Wednesday.’ Starring Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles, the film is directed by Neeraj Pandey. The film ‘A Wednesday’ depicts social issues like bomb blast and loopholes of society and set between 2 to 6 pm on a Wednesday. The film is based upon Mumbai police commissioner Prakash Rathod played by Anupam Kher narrating about a challenging case that he faced in his service period.
