Twitter The Largest Datacenter Leaser


The other major leasing deals of last year were by Rackspace, which rented a 10 MW facility in London; Microsoft with an 8.4MW facility in San Antonio; Shutterfly, with an 8MW premises in Las Vegas; and LinkedIn, with a 7.2MW datacenter in Dallas. As per the report, Microsoft was the second biggest leaser overall after Twitter, with four facilities; however there was retarded leasing during the year.

Microsoft topped the list of the largest in-house datacenters for the year 2013, with a $677. 6 million facility in Iowa. Google followed with a $600 million datacenter in South Carolina, $400 million unit in Iowa; and then Facebook with $300million setup in Iowa. Currently the datacenters occupied by the IT companies are now available on lease as they are moving out.

The rate at which the datacenter facilities is being rented by the IT companies, datacenter providers have plans to create and lease out more space this year.
