Yahoo's Editor-In-Chief Jai Singh Quits

Bangalore: Yahoo, just one day after breaking the news about their COO, Henrique de Castro’s departure, is now making headlines again. This time it is Jai Singh, the company’s editor-in-chief, who is leaving the company.

Jai Singh, a reputed editor, recognized for pioneering online journalism during his decade long tenure at CNET before joining Huffington Post was poached by Yahoo back in May 2011. While the company’s spokesperson did not give a reason to his abrupt departure, a leaked internal memo published by ReCode reveals, Marissa Mayer, in addition to announcing de Castro’s exit to the employees, also restructured the leadership of the organization in which the editorial and media arms of the company were to come under the wings of Kathy Savitt, the company’s chief marketing officer– A reason enough to coerce Jai Singh into leaving? The speculations can go on further; maybe Singh had issues with the newly recruited journalist Katie Couric and tech columnist David Pogue, or maybe he did not share the ideologies of the CEO who arrived after him.

Whatever the reason might be, two high-profile exits on consecutive days is not the way to go for a company that is set to announce their earnings– which by the way, hasn’t improved by much since Mayer took over.
