8 Indian Startups That Shifted Track To Find Success

4. Inmobi

Core Function: Ad network

Previously Known As: mKhoj

Funding From: Angel Funds

What Led To The Transformation: Inmobi was launched as a mobile based local search play but realization that ad network in India is booming at a swift pace, mKhoj gave way to Inmobi and that lifted the hung profit lines for the company.

Why It Worked: During the time mKhoj was started, it required partnerships with operators to function. It is only in recent times that independent apps have found freedom. And with an excellent sales team, it was more feasible for mKhoj to develop into Inmobi that serves mobile ads.

3. Myntra

Core Function: Lifestyle e-Commerce.

Previously Known As: Myntra (as a custom-designed product provider)

Funding From: IndoUS, IDG and Accel Partners.

What Led To The Transformation: Myntra was among the first companies in India that introduced custom designed products online. As the market for such products is limited, it became difficult for the company to scale up its revenues. This led the company in making a transition to a lifestyle product-based e-commerce website.

Why It Worked: Looking at the market for lifestyle products and the craze among people for shopping online that can be attributed to convenience, this hinge did prove to reap dividends for Myntra.
