Rajesh Khanna also tagged as the ‘first superstar’ of Indian Cinema died on 18 July 2012 at the age of 69. He earned the title ‘original superstar’ after 15 consecutive solo hits in 1970s, an unbroken record till now. He is been featured in a total of 180 films which includes 163 feature films and 17 short films. He was nominated fourteen times for Filmfare Best Actor Awards, in which he won three times. He was honored with the Filmfare Special Award in 1991 for appearing in 101 films as the protagonist in a time span of 25 years. He was renowned with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. With ‘Aakhri Kha’t he debuted in 1966. He earned popularity and fame for his phenomenal performance in films like Aradhana, Raaz, Baharon Ke Sapne. From 1970 to 1979 he was the highest paid Indian actor. From 1992 to 1996 he was a Lok Sabha member from New Delhi constituency of the Indian National Congress. The departure of ‘kaka’ of Indian cinema will be missed and remembered with the same intensity as his performance on screen.
