2012's Enterprise Shifts, Beyond Apple and Google

Hewlett-Packard: Looking for bandages to fix its self-inflicted wounds

For HP, the year 2012 is definitely a one to forget. With a whole long list of mistakes and bad strategies, HP really is going through a devastating year.

Former Apple exec Jean Louis Gassée delivers an excellent analysis of HP's issues in the Guardian. It's a gory, gossipy tale of mismanaged acquisitions and benighted leadership in every major business unit. As Gassée sums up: "HP was once a pillar of Silicon Valley, a shining example of technical and managerial culture at their best. Today, insignificance and mediocrity loom."

Of late, CEO Meg Whitman has been constantly implementing strategies to mend the company’s harsh wounds, as there’s been an endless list of strategies, flowing out of nowhere.

This year, the tech world has seen a lot of mishaps from HP. Palm, EDS and finally Autonomy. Once HP’s treasure pot, printers and ink is simply shrinking in the market. The mobile strategy from the company is definitely uncertain. The company is running out of strategies in the world of tablets and Smartphones.

We will definitely have to wait to see a turnaround of things from HP and its association, but first the definite strategy should be getting HP out of its misery and CEO Whitman definitely knows it.
