United Airlines was already struggling well before terrorist attack of 9/11 and things got worse when the terrorists used its company's aircrafts for the attack. One month after the attack James Goodwin, who was serving the company from July 1999 to October 2001, was ousted from his CEO post.

The charges against him were that he couldn't execute a merger with US Airways, and labor disputes canceled a whopping 26,000 flights in the summer of 2000.

CEO tenure: 1year, 5 months  

Durk Jager was the CEO of household goods giant  Proctor & Gamble from September 1998 to February 2000. He gradually rose to achieve the CEO crown at P & G. 

Jager implemented an aggressive restructuring sought to introduce new products, close plants, and eliminate jobs to streamline the company's operations and boost the bottom line. Instead of these positive hopes, the company saw profits fall dramatically.
