Orissa is on the 8th spot with 978 women per 1000 men in 2011, it was 972 women per 1000 men in 2001. It shows an increase of +6 in sex ratio in the state. The ratio is considered to be a valuable source to illustrate the women population in India. It was disclosed in the population census in 2011 that the population ratio in 2011 is 940 females per 1000 of males, on an average in India.

The state shows an increase in sex ratio of +11 in 2011. The result recorded by census in 2011 shows 986 women per 1000 men and in 2001 the number of women per 1000 men was 975. “The Sex Ratio 2011 shows an upward trend from the census 2001 data. Census 2001 revealed that there were 933 females to that of 1000 males,” as per census2011.  India has seen a decrease for decades in the sex ratio, however in the last two decades a slight increase in sex ratio is seen in the country.
