10 Countries that Follow Draconian Drug Laws

5. Saudi Arabia:

Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Kingdom might seem like a virtual paradise. But, in strict accordance with its law, visitors to this devout Muslim nation are strictly prevented from bringing in any narcotics, pills or alcohol. There are no bars or liquor stores in the entire country, which means everything from Ativan to Absolut is strictly forbidden. Severe jail sentences and public battering are some of the punishments for possession and consumption of drugs.

4. Indonesia:

Indonesia is one such country where visitors are greeted with a large, cheerful sign informing that drug traffickers who are apprehended will be put to death. The drug laws in Indonesia are so strict that parents who fail to notify the authorities of their children’s narcotics use could face criminal charges. These policies have done little to curb drug use among Indonesians, but the government still favors swift execution over long imprisonment as the main deterrent for would-be users and traffickers. And these laws are certainly not limited to the locals; three Australian men were caught smuggling heroin in 2006, and faced a firing squad as a result.
