Why mysterious: Mystery related to Renwick Smallpox Hospital building is that the building is being illuminated by an anonymous patron during the dark hours.  

Details: The Smallpox Hospital that is often known as the Renwick Smallpox Hospital is an abandoned building located on Roosevelt Island, New York City. This abandoned structure is of three-storied, nine-bay U-shaped and has some distinctive features like mansard roofs, granite veneer and corbelled parapets. The hospital beds of this building were once filled with quarantined immigrants who were suffering from the grisly disease.  However, a restoration project of $4.5 million is going on which is expected to reopen Renwick this year.

Why mysterious: The Chapel has a spiral staircase which is an architectural marvel built by a mysterious carpenter, who got disappeared mysteriously soon after the construction done in 1878.

Details: The story goes like in 1878 an anonymous carpenter visited the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico and built an attractive spiral staircase that stands without any kind of central support and the carpenter disappeared after the completion of the staircase. And the mystery is still unsolved. Earlier, this Chapel was a Roman Catholic Church but is now used as a museum and for wedding purposes.
