Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
Borne and bought up in a small rural village called Dhavalagi in North Karnataka, India. My father is a farmer and mother is housewife. I two sibling, a younger brother and sister.
Current Job Profile
I have 3 joint appointments- Manager, Earth Observation and Modeling Facility; Research Scientist at the Center for Spatial Analysis, College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences and Research Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology, College of Arts and Sciences.
Changes in the industry
It has changed in many folds from how we input the data, manage,store and display. then there is change in paradigm and shift in the geo-spatial industry with integration of the open source and Open Geospatial Consortium, e.g., ArcGIS shift from Java to Python.
What are the important lessons you have learned in your professional life?
Whatever happened, happened for the good; whatever is happening, is happening for the good; whatever will happen, will also happen for the good only. I learned create my own environment around I live and work!
Degrees That Matter
Honestly I not done any degree or certificates related to Java technology. All I have done in my profession is "learn while you work".
Current Role
Global Land Remote Sensing is main domain of my current role. and Sublets are mapping global food and environmental security using Geospatial technology and machine learning.
Work Life Balance
Set the priorities and address the "mosts" first and follow art of procrastination on bottom lines. Devote time to family and kids when they needed irrespective of work! Keeping them smiling always brings ton of the energy!

In geospatial domain, Java seems to slow in adopting new features
What are the most important career decisions that you have made along the way?
My career path is too diverse and it wasn't a direct path. From BSc Forestry, MSc in Genetic Engineering and PhD in Satellite Remote Sensing. Every career decision I made along the way tocuh many things to rejoice in present career.
Can you tell us about one role model who inspires you and why?
I have two mentors who tuned me to right direction. Prof. PS Roy and Prof. Xiangming Xiao who are hard working, trust in what they do, and always tries hard to give me something to think and develop
Scope Of Java
Future is open source with not ties. and Java is an open source with independent platform!
Plans for the Future
My long term goal is the build citizen science tool for mapping global resources.
Areas for the Future
Cloud computing and/for petascale data processing and information mining from the mulci-scale and multitemportal images across the platforms and sensors.
