Facebook's New App To Catch Up On Election Frenzies


BANGALORE: The world’s largest social networking site Facebook couldn’t have turned blind eye on the upcoming general elections that are to take place in world’s largest democracy India. While Indians are slowly getting immersed in the election frenzies with political parties mudslinging at each other and thumping up even the hard to notice good deeds, Facebook as silently launched an app to capture this moment. Named as ‘India Election Tracker’ the app is to track the contesting politicians and parties till the end of elections.

The app lets the users to see the live updates of the candidates and as well as help participate in the poll concerning the throbbing issues such as corruption and lawlessness. It also offers an insight into how much the Facebook community is talking about candidates and parties which in turn shows off the popularity or notoriety of respective entities.

With 93 million users in India, Facebook is keen on the success of its app."We focus on making sure people have the power to share and to make the world more open and connected. This opportunity to engage actively and regularly with constituents have led campaign teams and leaders to use the medium, making Facebook a core part of the political infrastructure in the country," says Ankhi Das, director of Public Policy for India and South Asia, Facebook India, as reported by Times Of India.

Facebook’s election page for 2012 U.S. elections offered elaborate updates with tons of data in easily consumable snapshots, it is time to see how it will repeat the same magic in Indian elections too.
