Windows Phone 8.1 To Get 'Cortana', A Siri And Google Now Rival

BANGALORE: Though a late starter, Microsoft has become the third horse to race in Smartphone market after Google and Apple. The software giant’s successful Windows Phone 8 is the third most used mobile platform in the world, and the next update to it is to bring plethora of features including its own voice recognizing AI track. The feature is named “Cortana” after the female AI character in Halo game series and it is to take on with similar services like Apple’s “Siri” and Google’s “Google Now.”

However on contrary to the rumors which originated way back in last year, Cortana won’t be featuring the beautiful lady from the game serious, instead it will take form of circular animated icon. The feature takes cue from Apple’s virtual assistant Siri and shows of different animated forms while it is speaking or thinking. The difference is that the Cortana shows a circular blue icon, as opposed to Siri’s white microphone, reports The Verge.
