CBI Arrests Micromax Co-Owner For Bribing

Bangalore: CBI on Wednesday arrested two top executives of Micromax, the Indian cell phone manufacturer in an act of bribery from Delhi. According to the reports, the co-owner of company, Rajesh Aggarwal and a senior executive ManishTuli were trying to influence four engineers of North Delhi Municipal Corporation with an amount of 30 lakh for clearance to a banquet hall construction.

 The bribe was offered to Rajesh Wadhwa (superintending engineer), A K Singh (executive engineer), Mahinder (assistant engineer) and a DDA engineer to facilitate the clearance of the construction site at Wazirpur. There are reports that say two junior officials who were appointed to collect the amount were also bribed. CBI sources say that the Engineers asked Rajesh and Manish to pay a sum of 50 lakh however finalized the deal for 30 lakh. Soon after the arrest was confirmed, CBI spokes person Dharini Mishra said that they rushed to the Timarpur office of Aggarwal and Tuli after learning that the amount was going to be paid there. The investigation team raided house and office of 15 people who were all related to this incident of greasing the palm. A sum of forty lakh was seized from the house of Kapil Dev, a junior engineer at the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. A Micromax Informatics spokesperson responded to the incident as “The Company has nothing to do with alleged personal misconduct of two arrested individuals."
