2014 To Witness World's First 3D Printed Building

Bangalore: Even though 3D Printing was invented in the 1980’s, it took nearly 3 decades for this technology to become accessible for everyone besides the big corporations. At present, 3D printing has taken off into the mainstream, but in the near future, it’ll definitely leave a bigger footprint as it is growing wide and large and as a first instance, Universe Architecture, a Dutch firm is planning to come up with a 3D printer which builds an endless house shaped like a Mobius strip.

The recent use of CAD has enabled architects to design building that was impossible 50 years ago. Specifically, Janjaap Ruijssenaars, an architect at Universe Architecture is preparing to build the world’s first 3D printed house. He came up with this spectacular idea as part of the project of the European competition which lets architects in over 15 different countries to build projects over the course of 2 years. Ruijssenaars will work with Italian inventor, Enrico Dini, founder of the D-shape 3D Printer.

As per the plans, the project will use 6X9 chunks of frame, comprised of sand and inorganic binder. Subsequently they will fill the frame with fiber-reinforced concrete. The outcome of the product features a single flowing design which looks stunning and it will be a two-storey building. The design is based on the Mobius strip, and it looks like an item of air and light. The structure’s frame will be made out of a mixture of sand and binding agent followed by setting it into a place and filled with fiber- reinforced concrete for stability.
