India's AI Skill Penetration Tops Globally, Rising Young Employability
According to the India Skills Report 2024 published by Wheebox, India has emerged as a global frontrunner in Artificial Intelligence (AI) skill adoption and talent accumulation, achieving a score of 3.09. The country currently hosts a skilled base of 416,000 AI professionals as of August 2023, well-positioned to meet the present demand of approximately 629,000 professionals a number anticipated to escalate to one million by 2026. Notably, the report indicates an enhancement in India's overall young employability, reaching 51.25%, a notable improvement compared to the previous year. States characterized by substantial talent reservoirs like Haryana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana exhibit the highest concentrations of highly employable youth. Leading the group, Haryana showcases the highest percentage, with 76.47% of test takers scoring 60% and above on the WNET assessment.
Nirmal Singh, Chief Convenor of India Skills Report and the founder/CEO of Wheebox, stressed the necessity for collaborative efforts involving governmental entities, businesses and educational institutions to effectively address challenges, with a focus on inclusivity. Singh highlighted successful youth upskilling initiatives and advancements in digital infrastructure as examples of such collaborative endeavors. The report also underscored the concentration of talent among individuals aged 22-25, with Uttar Pradesh leading at 74.77%, closely followed by Maharashtra at 71.97%. Among the top 10 cities, the overall employability rate within this age bracket stands at 63.58%. These observations emphasize the influence of regional disparities and demographic factors on India's employability landscape.
Regarding the evolving technological landscape, Sachin Jain, Country Manager of ETS, India, South Asia, emphasized the role of AI in learning science, emphasizing the significance of personalization, analytics, intuitive interpretations, and actionable insights. Jain highlighted that achieving these objectives is reliant on the application and amplification of AI. As the largest assessment organization worldwide, ETS is well-positioned to contribute to this evolving landscape. The India Skills Report 2024 furnishes valuable insights into the country’s talent scenario, spotlighting India's leadership in AI skill adoption and the promising trajectory of young employability, setting the stage for sustained growth and advancement in the digital age.
