IIT-M Incubated Agnikul to Test 3D-Printed Engine
Agnikul Cosmos, a Chennai-based aerospace startup focusing on satellite launch vehicles, stands at the brink of a remarkable achievement. They are gearing up for a crucial test flight that will showcase the world's first-ever single-piece 3D-printed engine, scheduled to launch before the year's end. This milestone signifies a significant advancement in aerospace technology. The imminent mission holds considerable significance as a technological precursor, resembling Agnikul's broader planned orbital launch, scheduled for commercial deployment in 2024, albeit on a smaller scale.
According to CEO Srinath Ravichandran, "Our aim is to launch by the year-end. There's one pending test scheduled to take place at our campus at IIT-Madras". He further stated, "Once the final reviews with ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) are concluded, we'll be set to go, given that the launch vehicle is already positioned at the launch pad".
Ravichandran highlighted the intricacy of this project, emphasizing, "This isn't a sounding rocket; it's a sophisticated machine. Therefore, our priority is to ensure accuracy from the very first attempt". The company is committed to thorough preparation to guarantee the success of the inaugural flight featuring their innovative 3D-printed engine.
