IPL 2025: Sanju Samson Excited to Build New Bonds and Lead Rajasthan Royals
With IPL 2025 coming up soon, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was excited about getting to know new team-mates, forging relationships, and learning about the different characters in the team. The Royals, who were the champions of the first-ever edition of the tournament, will begin their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 23.
We've had one of the greatest IPL cycles in the last three years with the highest percentage of wins and some of the finest players Rajasthan Royals has ever seen. It was like a family. Then, according to IPL regulations, you have to release that family and construct a new one again", Samson told JioHotstar.
He highlighted the team’s unique blend of youth and experience, saying, “We’ve brought in some interesting players, from a 13-year-old to a 35-year-old. Personally, I’m very excited about this challenge meeting new people, building relationships, and understanding the personalities behind the performances. That’s where the real fun lies”.
On his preparation schedule, Samson disclosed that foundation work starts much earlier than the tournament. "While I have 7-10 days of prep, I make a conscious effort to spend as many hours as possible outside of my room, communicating with my players and coaches, establishing that rapport. And then we set out on the journey as a group. That's where the fun of being a captain begins", he added.
Samson also spoke about the valuable lessons he gained from Rahul Dravid, who is back as RR head coach this season. "As a captain, I can see how he led from the front not only with his skills but off the field too. He never skipped an optional practice session when he was captain. I saw how he handled young players, how he spoke to seniors, how he conducted team meetings, and how he welcomed new players". All those little but important things molded my idea of leadership, and I attempt to adopt the same path".
With Rajasthan Royals preparing for a new beginning, Samson's energy and leadership are set to motivate the team as they prepare for another successful IPL campaign.
