Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, was overjoyed and extremely proud after Team India won the ICC Champions Trophy title, defeating New Zealand by four wickets in a nail-biting finish at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Adani took to social media site X, applauding the team's resolve and perseverance. In his victory post, he said, "Dominant. Relentless. Brilliant. Triumphant. India Zeals the Deal"! The official account of Adani Group also joined the bandwagon of congratulatory messages, posting, "Congratulations, Team India, on becoming champions, once again".
India's win was achieved in the process of chasing down New Zealand's 252-run target on a difficult, slow-turning surface. Captain Rohit Sharma set the tone with an aggressive 76 off 83 deliveries, supported by his opening batsman Shubman Gill playing a solid hand until he fell to the Kiwi bowling attack. Though quick wickets fell, the Indian middle order, headed by Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya, kept the chase intact.
New Zealand's bowlers relentlessly put pressure on, taking key wickets and restricting India's scoring rate. But India's resolve and composure saw them reach the finish line with a few overs to spare, clinching their third Champions Trophy title.
This win is particularly notable as it is less than a year since India's devastating defeat in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup final. India went through the Champions Trophy tournament unbeaten, beginning with victories against Bangladesh and Pakistan. They finished at the top of the group table after another win against New Zealand and reached the final with a dominant semi-final victory over Australia.
India's never-say-die performance and fight-have-it spirit once again sealed their position as cricketing titans. Not just does the victory bring in an additional glamorous award to their accolades, it is also evidence of the never-say-die attitude and determination of the team.
Celebrate though, the win at Dubai will assuredly go on to become Indian cricket's match-defining victory.
