India's Triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy

India's Triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other leaders wished Team India congratulatory wishes after Men in Blue captain Rohit Sharma, with his team, beat New Zealand by four wickets to win the ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India won its third Champions Trophy title and became the most successful team in the tournament's history.
Pursuing a 252 target on a slow turning pitch, India got off to a confident start with captain Rohit Sharma aggressive against the bowlers, and his opening mate Shubhman Gill anchoring the innings. But New Zealand's bowlers fought back, getting Gill and star batsman Virat Kohli quickly, restricting Indian run flow. But the middle order, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, stabilized the innings, keeping hopes alive for India.
The run chase went down to the wire, but India ultimately sealed the victory with an over to spare, claiming their second ICC title within a year after the heartbreak of the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss. Rohit Sharma top-scored with 76 runs, while Shreyas Iyer contributed a vital 48 off 62 balls. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 34, guiding India to victory alongside Hardik Pandya, who chipped in with crucial runs.
President Murmu has conveyed her pride of place at Team India's success with a message on X: "Heartiest congratulations to Team India on their victory in the ICC Champions Trophy, 2025. India is the only team to have won the Trophy for the third time. The players, management, and support staff are worthy of the highest praise for making cricketing history. I wish Indian cricket an extremely bright future".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too posted on X, acknowledging the team's outstanding performance: "An exceptional game and an exceptional result! Proud of our cricket team for winning the ICC Champions Trophy back home. They've played excellently throughout the tournament. Congratulations to the team for the marvelous all-round show".
Home Minister Amit Shah praised the team for their dominance, stating: "A win that writes history. Congratulations to Team India for securing a thrilling win in the ICC #ChampionsTrophy2025. Your blazing passion and unbeatable supremacy on the field made the country proud, raising the bar of cricketing excellence. May you never fall short of flying colors".
BJP national president and Union Minister J.P. Nadda appreciated the determination and never-give-up spirit of the team, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi were also quick to send their best wishes, praising the team's phenomenal effort and the impact of this on the country's spirit. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin appreciated the perfect campaign and exquisite finish, hailing the Men in Blue for their composure and brilliance during the tournament.
The triumph was not easy, however. After a good beginning, India had nervous moments when Rohit got out after a scintillating 83-ball 76, and the team was in a mini-collapse. New Zealand's spinners struggled, but the batting depth of India ensured they reached the finishing line. On a slow pitch, New Zealand had previously scored 251/7, with contrasting half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101 balls) and Michael Bracewell (53 not out off 40 balls). India's spinners were the key to success, as Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy took two wickets each and Ravindra Jadeja took one.
India's victory completed an unbeaten streak throughout the tournament. The Men in Blue began their campaign with a win against Bangladesh, then followed that up with a comprehensive victory against arch-enemies Pakistan. They reached the top of the league stage after defeating New Zealand in the final group game and defeated Australia in the semi-final, prior to facing the Kiwis in a thrilling final.
For Indian cricket enthusiasts, the victory brought much-needed respite following the agony of losing the 2023 ODI World Cup final on home turf. The team's resilience, incisive strategies, and combined brilliance shone through, highlighting why they are still one of the most powerful teams in international cricket. With a packed stadium full of Indian fans cheering in jubilation, the victory not only cemented India's cricketing credentials but also revived the country's cricket fever.
ICC Champions Trophy victory will be etched in history as a logo of India's cricket revival, a badge of pride for the team's resilience, perseverance, and capacity to deliver under pressure. When the players hoisted the trophy under the Dubai floodlights, they didn't merely claim a trophy — they claimed a billion hearts all over the world, adding yet another golden page to the history of Indian cricket.
