Elizabeth Lee Hazen and Rachel Fuller Brown developed and patented the magical drug of the 20th century, Nystatin and it is still considered to be one of the most prominent and helpful inventions in the history of American medical science. Soldiers in World War II had to face serious problems of fungus infections, which were not cured by drugs such as pencillin and in such critical situations Nystatin proved to be really beneficial healing various fungal infections of the skin and digestive system. Currently, the number of people receiving organ transplants, AIDS patients and those undergoing chemotherapy are increasing, so are the chances of fungal infections which is fought against with the help of this wonder drug. The scientists donated more than $13 million dollars to the nonprofit research corporation for the development of academic scientific study, the royalties they received from the invention.
