2. Stephanie Kwolek -Kevlar
Many of the police officers and soldiers across the globe owe their lives to Stephanie Kwolek, one of the first women research chemists of the world, who came up with a synthetic material called Kevlar which is five times stronger than the same weight of steel. This extremely light weight material which does not corrode nor erode is used in bullet proof vests and that is the reason why soldiers still feels obliged to Kwolek. This compound is also used in underwater cables, brake linings, space vehicles, boats, parachutes, skis, and building materials.
