Poltical Veterans Who Now Stand As Prime Accused

Former Telecom Minister Andimuthu Raja, the main accused of the 2G Spectrum Allocation case, was charged under conspiracy, forgery and fraud was sent to Tihar jail in 2010, until he got a bail after 15 months of being an inmate in the cell.

The scam of the decade- the 2G spectrum scam involved politicians and government officials in the country for illegally undercharging mobile companies for licensing the frequency allocation, which they would then use to create 2G subscriptions for cell phones. The difference between the money collected and the money which the law mandated to be collected charged the exchequer as much as 1, 76, 645 crore, valued according to Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

Raja who started out as student politician went on to become the face Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party as he rose up to being a Telecom Minister, telecom being one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. By the end of his political career, CAG held Raja personally responsible for the sale of 2G spectrum at 2001 rates in 2008.
