Abraham Lincoln, The 16th president of the United States, who was at the helm of the country during the American Civil War, is another well known leader who is well respected all around the world.

Lincoln was instrumental in keeping the people together during one of the worst crisis that hit the nation and was arguably the sole reason why the country escaped largely intact without breakup into smaller pieces. He is also credited for the abolition of slavery, and promotion of economic and financial modernization in the U.S.

Abraham Lincoln is regularly ranked among the three greatest presidents to lead in the country by the public and scholars in the U.S. And his Gettysburg Address of 1863 is regarded as the most quoted speech in the history of America. Persistence, vision, determination, courage and belief were his greatest strengths.
