India to Witness 15 Crore Pending Cases by 2040

Bangalore: In the name of justice Indians are sentenced to wait incessantly. Delayed justice isn’t rare in the country, however, in the recent times the people in India have wooed and wept for faster judicial results, which has yielded very little to pacify them. Adding to the current misery is the prediction made by a conservative judicial system estimating that the number of pending cases is going to rise by five-folds touching 15 crore in the next three decades. However, the strength of judges will only increase by four times settling at 75,000.

Currently 3 crore cases are pending in trial courts, dealt by 18, 000 judges which has resulted in a civil case lasting for almost 15 years, giving room for the axiom, ‘justice delayed is justice denied,’ as reported by TNN.

A report prepared by the Supreme Court called National Court Management System (NCMS) policy and action plan has presented the statistics and conditions pertaining to the delay in justice in India. It said, “India has one of the largest judicial systems in the world - with over 3 crore of cases and sanctioned strength of some 18,871 judges”.
