India to Witness 15 Crore Pending Cases by 2040

It is estimated that the number of Judges/Courts expanded 6 fold while the number of cases expanded by double that number. The mismatch between the number of court cases and the judge strength continues to increase in the country.
An information technology integrated monitoring system has been planned out by the Supreme Court policy and action plan in order to make the justice delivery system faster. For this purpose it has created a huge supervising process to detect and eliminate defects in fast disposal of cases.
With the increase in the number of cases as predicted by the report and the low rise in the number of judges, it could be expected that the judges will be burdened with more work, adding to the life span of the cases and resulting in delay.
Reasoning the estimate, the NCMS report said, “India’s literacy rate and per capita income increases, the number of new cases filed per thousand population is likely to increase from the current rate of about to about 75 cases in the next three decades.
