Extraordinary Indians Who Make Us Proud

Pravir Singh Gupta and Partho Ghosh:

Students of IIT Bhubaneshwar, Pravir Singh Gupta and Partho Ghosh, horrified with the regular news features on adulteration of milk that they decided to do something about giving people the control over what they consumed.

Pravir said, “Frequent reports of adulteration of milk with harmful chemicals, associated health hazards and lack of government surveillance for such incidents - inspired us to come up with the idea of Drink Pure – a simple take-at-home test to check milk for adulteration.”

The duos have invented a device named ‘Drink Pure’ to test the purity of milk in a simple, uncomplicated way and which can be used by laymen at home.

“Drink Pure is a handheld device that uses semiconductor based sensors to detect adulteration in milk," explained Partha. "It does not require any chemical reagents to detect adulteration."

Rakshith:

The 23 year old college student, Rakshith is on a mission to revolutionize Braille and make internet as accessible to the visually impaired as it to the sighted world. This idea struck his mind when he visited an institution for the blind in Bangalore.

“They had to punch holes in order to write in Braille with the help of a sharp object. They told me it was sometimes painful to keep punching holes at a fast rate,” Rakshith said. “It was then that a few of my friends and I decided to develop a Braille pad to open up the digital world to them,” reports Yahoo.

He and his team formulated a way on how to convert text in digital books to Braille with the help of what is now termed a Universal Digital Braille Book.
