Shaw started Biocon Foundation in the year 2004 to conduct health and environmental programs, directly benefiting the economically weaker sections of society. 7 ARY clinics of Biocon Foundation serves in location where healthcare facilities are poor and each clinic provides clinical care, generic medicines and basic tests to 50,000 people living within a radius of 10 km. The Foundation touches over 300,000 lives each year through its holistic healthcare approach. This India’s most influential woman was included on Forbes’ ‘Heroes of Philanthropy’ list in 2013.

Former Infosys executive and Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Nandan M. Nilekani is one of the top philanthropist with a donation of
530 crore. He has contributed to a charity, Arghyam founded by his wife that focuses on water issues such as purification, rain water harvesting and getting supplies to the poor. He has also started the New Foundation India along with historian Ram Chandra Guha. The organization supports research in social science by providing relevant scholarships.
