The Chairman of GMR Group, Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao aka G M Rao, made a generous contribution by donating
740 crore towards the education of underprivileged children. The endowment made by Rao is equivalent to his personal share of his business. GMR Varalakshmi Foundation serves the underserved sections of society in 22 locations. For charitable purpose, Rao donated
1540 crores in 2012. In an interview, Rao mentioned that Warren Buffett is his ultimate inspiration to support of ‘Giving back to the society.’ According to Forbes, Rao's net worth is estimated around $2.6 billion. And he feels that his action goes with the philosophy of nation building before any other consideration.
Michael Bloomberg:
Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City though has ended his reign at City Hall, but he's still a king among philanthropists. He is included on a new list of 2013's most generous donors.
The three-term mayor snagged his spot on the annual ranking by The Chronicle of Philanthropy with a $350 million pledge to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Over his one decade service as NYC mayor, he donated over $650 million of his own money to cultural, civic and philanthropic causes. He also spent $30 million to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to pay for audio guides and wireless Internet.
