  • Firozpur-Delhi route connects Punjab’s border district to New Delhi in just 6 hours 40 minutes.
  • New trains cut travel time, boost trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Varanasi on Saturday, marking another big step in India’s expanding semi-high-speed rail network, now crossing 160 services nationwide.

Among the new routes, the Firozpur-Delhi Vande Bharat has drawn the most attention. It links Punjab’s border district to the national capital in 6 hours 40 minutes, making it the fastest service on the 486-km corridor. Running six days a week, the train departs Firozpur Cantt at 7:55 am and reaches New Delhi by 2:35 pm, with stops at Bathinda, Patiala, and Ambala Cantt among others. The return journey leaves Delhi at 4:00 pm and reaches Firozpur by 10:35 pm.

Built at Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory, the train includes automatic doors, Wi-Fi, and bio-toilets, and can reach speeds of up to 160 kmph. The new service is expected to strengthen trade from Punjab’s farming and industrial belt and improve logistics in border regions.

The other routes include Banaras-Khajuraho, connecting Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh’s spiritual and heritage hubs; Lucknow-Saharanpur, easing student and trade travel across northern UP; and Ernakulam-Bengaluru, linking Kerala’s port city with Karnataka’s tech hub.

Together, these additions reduce travel time, enhance passenger comfort, and boost tourism, trade, and regional development across India.
