Spotify Partners with Netflix to Stream Video Podcasts

Spotify Partners with Netflix to Stream Video Podcasts
  • Spotify will bring select video podcasts to Netflix, starting in the US in early 2026
  • The partnership highlights Spotify’s growing focus on video content and advertising opportunities
  • Initial content includes sports, culture, lifestyle, and true crime podcasts from Spotify Studios and The Ringer

Spotify is teaming up with Netflix to offer video podcasts on the streaming giant’s platform starting next year. This new collaboration aims to expand Spotify’s video content reach and boost its advertising business. Viewers on Netflix in the US will soon access a curated mix of popular video podcasts covering sports, culture, lifestyle, and true crime, with plans to add more genres and studios over time.

This move reflects Spotify’s increasing push into video podcasts, a shift that began when it allowed creators to upload video versions of their shows. Over the past year, Spotify has launched new ways for podcasters to earn revenue from their videos, directly challenging platforms like YouTube. It has also introduced interactive features such as polls, Q&A sessions, and comments to deepen audience engagement.

After a strategic shift in 2023, following the departure of its former chief content officer, Spotify moved away from costly exclusive podcast deals toward video, which attracts younger audiences like Gen Z and offers better advertising potential. The platform now hosts over 430,000 video podcasts, with video streams growing 20 times faster than audio-only podcasts since 2024.

While financial details of the Netflix deal remain private, the partnership will help Spotify revive its advertising revenue, which recently dipped despite more users and subscribers. Spotify plans to roll out the video podcast experience in other countries after the US launch.
