Netflix Brings Social Party Games to TVs for Shared Entertainment
- Netflix brings mobile style games like Pictionary and Tetris to smart TVs
- Phones become game controllers; gameplay runs on the TV
- Move aims to boost Netflix’s interactive entertainment push beyond streaming
Netflix is stepping up its game, literally. The streaming giant is now bringing social and party style video games to televisions, letting users play hits like Pictionary, Boggle Party, Tetris Time Warp, and Lego Party right from their smart TVs. Players will use their smartphones as controllers, transforming living rooms into digital game zones.
The announcement came from Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters at the Bloomberg Screentime conference. This shift marks a big step in Netflix’s goal to evolve from a passive streaming service to a more interactive, social entertainment platform.
For the past four years, Netflix offered games mainly on mobile devices. But the platform is now aiming for the living room, where most families gather to watch content. “We want to create fun, social gaming experiences on the main screen at home”, said Peters.
The games are designed to be easy to play and encourage group participation. Users just scan a QR code on the TV screen to link their phones and jump into the action. All games in this launch batch are free for Netflix subscribers, including Lego Party, which usually sells for $40.

Netflix is also working on expanding its cloud server capacity to support seamless gameplay for a growing user base. The company plans to focus on four types of games, kids’ games, party games, big titles like GTA, and games based on Netflix originals like Stranger Things.
With this move, Netflix is reimagining itself as more than a streamer, it's becoming a full blown entertainment platform.
