India as the Next Global Hub for Media and Entertainment: WAVES 2025

India is poised to host a groundbreaking event in the global media and entertainment sector with the launch of WAVES 2025 the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit. This four-day event, supported by the Government of India, will take place from May 1 to May 4 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.

WAVES 2025 seeks to position India as a central hub of content creation, innovation, and investment for the media and entertainment (M&E) sector. The summit will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, comprising international executives, technology innovators, Bollywood superstars, and new-age startups. Participants can expect to hear from Bollywood and local cinema stalwarts, including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, and SS Rajamouli, in panels, while industry heads like Nvidia VP Richard Kerris and Meta's Instagram head Adam Mosseri will deliver keynotes.

The summit will explore the content creation and distribution future, analyzing the impact of AI and immersive technologies such as AR, VR, XR, and metaverse, and the future of gaming and digital experiences. It will address some of the key sectors such as film, animation, VFX, gaming, broadcasting, digital media, advertising, music, radio, and comics.

Apart from conference sessions and panel discussions, WAVES will also include a technology and content exhibition, cultural performances, and a range of initiatives targeted at investors. One of the highlights of the event is the WAVES Bazaar, an international digital bazaar meant to bring Indian creators together with international buyers and investors. Another prominent feature is WAVEX, a startup pitching space for new-age ventures in the AVGC-XR and M&E industries.Masterclasses and workshops will give hands-on experience to potential creators, while the 'Create in India Challenge' will highlight emerging talent in content creation. The initiative is a strategic move by India to develop its soft power and creative economy globally, with a keen emphasis on future-ready technologies and collaboration.
