Emraan Hashmi Praised Netflix Sensation 'Adolescence' show calls In India a 'Nightmare'

Emraan Hashmi has spoken of his appreciation for the Netflix show Adolescence, praising its risky storytelling and innovative concept, as well as describing the difficulties involved in making such a show in India. The show, written by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, is about a teenager who stands accused of murdering one of his classmates and has received major critical acclaim since its launch in March.

Speaking to News 18, Emraan commented on the success of the show, stating that it had worked because of its portrayal of modern issues in youth, more so the role of social media. He accepted that the show is risky per se, with all four episodes shot in a single take with no cuts involved. This challenging technique involved immense rehearsals and planning.

Emraan indicated how hard it is to sell a concept like that to producers within India, considering that nine out of ten of them would probably think it's not practical. He elaborated, "If you show a producer here the idea, nine out of ten would say you're joking. It would be a nightmare from a logistics standpoint. If we have an accident 13 minutes into a shoot, we'd have to recreate it, and that is cause for concern on the budget.". It would take a visionary director to take on a project such as this."

Adolescence stars Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, and Faye Marsay, and also sees the television debut of 15-year-old Owen Cooper, who plays the accused teenager Jamie Miller. The series is available to stream on Netflix.

Along with his appreciation for Adolescence, Emraan Hashmi has also recently launched his new movie, Ground Zero, which was released on April 25. Ground Zero is inspired by the real-life story of BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey and narrates the Border Security Force operation that resulted in the killing of terrorist Rana Tahir Nadeem, alias Ghazi Baba, in 2003. Ground Zero has been directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar and features Sai Tamhankar, Zoya Hussain, and Mukesh Tiwari.
