Unlike the other movies mentioned in the list, the subject of the film was not the reason for any controversy; what irked the Shiv Sena was a statement by SRK (who played the lead role in the movie).

Shah Rukh was not happy with the fact that not even a single player from Pakistan was participating in the 2010 IPL, as the clubs were not interested to include any of them. When he expressed his opinion publicly, the Shiv Sena members responded by threatening to ban his movie, My Name is Khan.

Khan responded by stating, "What did I say that was wrong? All I said was that I wanted people to come to my country. I have no idea what I am supposed to apologise for. If I am in wrong I would like to apologise but someone needs to explain to me what is wrong." He also stated that he does "not want any confrontation. I am trying to explain myself on every platform. I have not said anything that is anti-national.’’

The controversy didn’t stop here, there were attacks on movie theatres and booking centres, post its release.
